22/04/2024

Drive Medical, manufacturer of bath, shower and WC solutions, launches the world’s lightest electric sanitary elevator, weighing less than 4 kilograms, thanks to REGNER‘s RA42 actuator technology. This medical device features a record weight compared to previous systems on the market, characterized by their bulky mechanism thanks to the integration of an actuator designed specifically for this function, which enables the raising and lowering movement and which is fully integrated inside the sanitary device for people with reduced mobility.

Drive Medical and REGNER's union

The cooperation between Drive Medical and REGNER, specialist in electric linear actuators, started in the winter of 2023, when the manufacturer of solutions for improving the lives of people with reduced mobility had a new product in mind an electronic system that would help people with reduced mobility in everyday situations at home, as well as in hygiene control.

This project was designed to address the daily needs of people who do not have full control of their mobiliy, making routine tasks such as using the toilet, showering or washing difficult. When it comes to going to the toilet, it triggers uncomfortable situations, as these people may fall down on the seat because they do not have a support at the right height, or it may be difficult for them to get back up again.

Innovation and project execution

In the last few months, aware of this problem, Drive Medical’s engineers, together with the team from REGNER have worked hard to conceive a light electronical device, smartly designed that would solve the problem of the current market, and would also be integrated to the seat, with which provided with movement, the action of accommodating and incorporating into the toilet is made possible.

Once the focus was pointed on solving these charactersitics, they designed an ultralight electrical device, reduced in size compared to its predecessors. Its smart design is integrated in the seat, and with the given movement, it allows the easy and effective accommodation and incorporation.

For Marc Sarquella, senior R&D engineer at REGNER, this new development is a milestone:

  • Thanks to RA42 actuators contained in this system, an up and down movement is produced, which follows the actual movement of the user when getting in and out the seat, prventing people with reduced mobility from dropping into the seat, and helping them and giving them a safe support when incorporating and standing up, thus avoiding adverse movements. There’s no such system in the market“.

RA42

The RA42, REGNER’s latest addition to its product porfolio, is the linear actuator responsible of providint this clean and safe motion offered by the medical aid, integrated elegantly into the device, the actuators cause the lifting and lowering motion as soon as it is remotely activated.

The company’s engineers took into account in detail the characteristics required by the application so that the users would not suffer any adverse movement and this system would guarantee their safety and well-being, stating that there is no other system of this type on the market that is capable of performing the same function.

The RA42 linear actuator marks the beginning of a new era of lightweight electric systems, as it weighs less than 4 kg, making it easy to handle.

Perfect combination of design and comfort

Drive Medical’s engineers wanted a solution that could be easily integratedinto the toilet, that could blend in with the toilet, so that people with this type of difficulty could maintain their autonomy in a safe and comfortable way

As is well known, there are different solutions on the market, but they all fall short of the needs of users, and are considered not very advanced, even deficient in terms of mechanism, weigh and the aggravating factor that they take up a lot of space.

The result of the work of the engineers of both companies is an electric toilet elevator with a perfect balance between weight, design and usability that offers the feeling of being fully integrated into the toilet and is suitable for any type of WC. Moreover, the battery is invisibly installed inside the device. Its control system guarantees smooth and reliable movements.

timra-01

It is not often that one of your potential customers calls to ask you to go and visit their offices. It is even more surprising when the customer in question is a leader in the Complex Technology Rehabilitation segment of the electric wheelchair business. This is exactly what happened on the morning of 10 April when Johan Svedjebrant, director of the Permobil Purchasing Group called us to ask about our REGNER® linear actuators with feedback.Svedjebrant led the engineering team’s value analysis activities which aimed to optimize the strategy of the purchases for his segment.

After a series of conversations, REGNER® was called to a meeting in Timrå, Permobil’s headquarters in Sweden, on 15 May. The reason so many days had passed since the first call and the visit was because there had been an organizational reshuffle at Permobil. After three years, Svedjebrant had left the company and Gabriel Rieger had taken on the position of Purchasing Director for electrical and electromechanical devices.

Rieger is a professional with more than 12 years of experience in positions of responsibility in the purchasing of complex electronic products. His mission was to purchase the best option in terms of quality, service and price for a new project which required high-performance and reliable compact actuators for complete movement in multiple positions.

The project was being carried out thanks to the joint work of two key departments at Permobil, the Purchasing team and the R&D team made up of a whole host of mechanical, electronic and communications engineers.

The meeting was essential both to see first-hand the REGNER® solutions specially designed for electric wheelchairs, and to verify the capabilities of REGNER® in the area of communication protocols for the transmission of information in distributed environments, one of the complex issues of the project.

Surprising and exceeding Permobil's expectations

On an unusually hot day in Timrå, a team of five people from REGNER® arrives at the Permobil facility. The level of expectation is high when Gabriel Rieger receives us in the lobby. He is a friendly person who combines the best of two cultures as contrasting as those of Northern and Southern Europe; on the one hand, the Scandinavian traits of punctuality, organization, order and on the other, a more Mediterranean character with a more relaxed, intimate and empathetic side.

Rieger introduces us to a team of 8 people made up of managers, engineers and technicians who are already waiting for us gathered in a large room, another demonstration of famous Swedish efficiency and punctuality to avoid wasting any time.

Without further delay, the presentations begin with the Swedish company first giving its corporate presentation with a special emphasis on its vision of the future, on the design of chairs that incorporate more complex technology to provide greater security, comfort and reliability to users. Advanced technology electric wheelchairs which, since they are connected, will offer a whole series of advantages to make life much easier for people with reduced mobility.

Then it is the turn of REGNER®. We have made huge efforts in recent years in this sector and the team wants to show off all the technology included in our electronic devices.

For this reason, after giving the corporate presentation, the team has brought with it a test bench for testing the actuators, checking their design, listening to their sound, verifying their speed and also testing other types of electronic components.

The different members of the Permobil team share looks of astonishment as they ask a barrage of questions and check the quality of the different actuators. One of the engineers even takes several photos of our products, having requested permission to do so.

After this first phase, the meeting enters a much more animated second phase. The engineers of both companies exchange information about mechanics, electronics and especially the communications required for the new project.

Our engineers are especially pleased with the words of one of the Permobil team members:

“The Permobil R&D department is convinced that REGNER® high performance electric actuators are the ideal choice for the concepts we are now developing“

Gabriel Rieger
Purchasing Director of Permobil for Electrical Devices

Finally, we get to the end of the meeting with the firm belief that we have surprised and exceeded Permobil’s expectations.
The project has already started. We have demonstrated once again why we are a benchmark in actuator solutions.

ra47-actuator

The new generation of REGNER®’s actuators is born We are proud to introduce the RA47, an actuator with a unique fusion of high power density, accuracy, and design.

Based on our clients’ feedback, we saw the need to fill a significant gap in the market of in-line actuators. Most of the preexisting electric actuators have no kind of feedback enabling interaction with other systems, and they are too bulky or too heavy for practical motion control applications. The RA-47 has finally arrived to break this schema.

The new REGNER® actuators now make installation and operation more user-friendly and efficient for OEM manufacturers. Thanks to its advanced electronic design, it is fully compatible with any device or system. In other words, everything becomes easier and goes faster, which is the REGNER® way.

Truly adaptable

The new REGNER® actuators now make installation and operation more user-friendly and efficient for OEM manufacturers. Thanks to its advanced electronic design, it is fully compatible with any device or system. In other words, everything becomes easier and goes faster, which is the REGNER® way.

Truly appealing

The RA-47 is perfect for a wide range of solutions, but it has been specially conceived for applications where the actuator is part of the overall image. Its compactness, in-line configuration, stylish design and anodized aluminum all empower the RA-47, and they increase the appeal of any device, unlike standard actuators in plastic with a 90° or 180° motor configuration. In brief, design thinking for sleek applications by REGNER®.

Truly powerful

The RA-47 is an in-line actuator with an outstanding lifting force of up to 2,500 N created with OEMs in mind. The new motor features an excellent output, a long service life and a low power consumption. This saves manufacturers time, and it also optimizes costs. With the RA-47, OEMs can take advantage of a highly efficient actuator, which is REGNER®’s trademark.

Truly complete

The RA47 is the only one of its kind. Because of its adaptability, appeal, and power, but also because it integrates an infinite resolution potentiometer working on a low impedance output feedback, which is what makes the RA-47 stand out. Most of the motion control devices on the market do not take impedance into consideration. The new REGNER® actuator, in contrast, takes it into account and guarantees the integrity of the different signals.

The potential of the actuator is enhanced with additional features, such as a highly durable aluminum housing, an advanced overcurrent and overvoltage protection system, integrated mechanical limit switches, and an IP65 protection rate. Just like the whole range of REGNER®’s motion control solutions, the RA47 offers multiple control and configuration options to suit even the most complex requirements.

The new RA-47 in-line actuator is now available in different configurations. Please contact us for a quote or any inquiries.-
