On 26 and 27 August 2026, REGNER’s engineering team attended All About Automation Zürich, held at Messe Zürich alongside maintenance Schweiz, to take a closer look at developments in motion control, collaborative robotics and mechatronics.

For a company that designs and manufactures electric linear actuators with integrated control electronics in Aiguaviva, the event serves as a technical barometer. It provides an opportunity to compare our own developments with solutions reaching the market and to speak directly with manufacturers, integrators and end users.

What All about automation Zürich brings together

All About Automation connects users and decision-makers with component manufacturers, robotics suppliers, integrators, and software companies. In 2026 it once again shared its venue with maintenance Schweiz, bringing automation, digitalization, robotics, and industrial maintenance together under one roof at Messe Zürich.

A growing edition

Combined, the two trade fairs brought together 290 exhibiting companies (230 at All About Automation and 60 at maintenance Schweiz) and 4,232 professional visitors. Compared with 2024, that represents a 15% increase in exhibitors and a 33% increase in visitors. On the content side, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and collaborative robots shared the spotlight with safe automation and the modernization of existing installations. The talk program was split across two Talk Lounges organized around the themes “Solution” and “Innovation,” with part of the content curated by the Swiss technology network SwissT.net.

What if the motor itself could predict a failure?

One of the technology trends that caught our attention was the use of the drive itself as a source of information for diagnostics. Using signals already available in the control system, it’s possible to analyze deviations from a reference behavior and obtain information about the equipment’s condition without necessarily adding new sensors. The motor thus stops being solely the component that generates movement and starts providing information about the equipment’s condition throughout its operating life.

From monitoring to diagnostics

REGNER is working in this same direction with a development currently in internal testing, aimed at adding diagnostic functions to its control systems. The goal is to turn the data generated during operation into useful information about the condition of the actuator and the application it’s integrated into. This analysis opens up new possibilities for detecting deviations, facilitating diagnostics, and moving toward maintenance strategies based on the system’s actual behavior rather than theoretical schedules. This work is part of REGNER’s effort to broaden the scope of its engineering services and to offer electric linear actuators with reliable, verifiable performance. Adding diagnostic functions will make it possible to deliver useful information all the way from the development and validation phases through to the product’s operation in service.

From trade show trends to REGNER Engineering

REGNER designs and manufactures electric linear actuators for medical equipment, machinery, and instrumentation. Depending on the application, these systems can integrate control electronics, position sensors, and industrial communication protocols such as CAN, RS-485, or Modbus, in applications where precision, repeatability, and reliability are essential design requirements.

The core themes of this edition connected directly with that work: safe automation, human-robot collaboration, and the modernization of existing installations. In practice, these challenges translate into closed-loop control, stroke and speed adjustment, and electronics capable of integrating the actuator into increasingly demanding control architectures.

The halls at Messe Zürich closed their doors on August 27. The comparison continues now in Aiguaviva, where the trends observed become concrete design, control, and integration decisions for upcoming developments.
